Second Amendment Foundation Hits Target

Sharing

Better late than never.

It was one of the most laborious and disgusting clean-up jobs that had to be done after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast in 2005.

Finally the Second Amendment Foundation has achieved satisfaction in its “clean-up” lawsuit against the city of New Orleans for using the hurricane as an excuse to grab guns from law-abiding citizens.

In September of 2005, the Foundation teamed up with the National Rifle Association to sue the New Orleans government for violating the right of innocent residents to bear arms. In the wake of Katrina, guns were grabbed without warrants, without even any probable cause or reasonable suspicion of crimes.

Just when people and their homes were at their most vulnerable, the forces of alleged law enforcement made it even harder for them to protect themselves against looters and other criminals.

It has taken three long years for New Orleans to agree to return the stolen weapons to their rightful owners. Alan Gottlieb, the founder of the Second Amendment Foundation, says he is glad the suit is finally settled. But he adds that it should never have been necessary.

Gottlieb hopes the permanent injunction will “[send] a signal to mayors and police chiefs everywhere that we live in a nation of laws, and those laws are not subject to their whims.”

Natural disasters are no excuse to crumple the Constitution.

This is Common Sense. I’m Paul Jacob.

Was any of the bigwigs ever punished for breaking the law? Hell no..
Were the firearms returned in the same condition as they were taken? Hell no

So, what was accomplished !! Richer lawyers–Hell yes

The truth is, this should never have happened. With “local” laws across the nation, well over 13,000 different municipal authorities could create a state of total confusion.
Since the Supreme Court recently ruled gun ownership & possession is a “right” according to the Constitution, many say the issue is resolved.
I say, “far from it!” In fact, the president elect thinks local laws should rule the day. So, if he gets his way, each & every municipality or local council of some sort, will issue their very own gun regulations. Obviously the intention will be to eliminate gun ownership because all will fear prosecution for some bizarre local law they could not be aware of, if they do ANY traveling at all or do not keep up with what locals do in their crazy meetings.
Socialists always want to disarm the people. That means no one can dispute the despotic intentions of thugs who run socialist states. Look to Chavez who shut down media outlets that spoke against his policies. He also has had his henchmen take guns from average citizens. No possibility of a peoples revolution if they cannot defend themselves.
Yet terrorists next door in Ecuador & Colombia have Ak-47’s galore, many provided by Chavez.
Apologizing after the fact is not good enough. What happened in New Orleans was a true crime against the people. And if we let it at that w/o demanding serious prosecutions of those who ordered that despotic gun grab, we risk this happening anytime our socialist minded leaders want to limit our ability to protect ourselves, even from them!

I can’t help but wonder how many actual criminals were relieved of THEIR guns, while the police were going into people’s homes (one assumes that they didn’t simply knock and ask the occupants to hand over all their guns without making a search: the occupant could simply answer, “We have no guns here”).

Is it possible that those holed up in their homes would present less of a threat to police than, say, an armed criminal gang out and about in the neighborhood?

If guns are outlawed…

Unless those responsible for the trampling of these citizens’ rights are actually punished in some way, the “victory” is quite hollow. Payment to the victims or punishment to the villains is necessary for justice to have prevailed.

If I am not mistaken, most of these weapons are now useless. I believe they were “stored” in barrels in a humid trailer and left to rust. Bet the officials of the NOPD will not be paying the gun owners for the loss.

The Second Amenedment is the uniquely American outgrowth from the Glorious Revolution of 1688. In England, the main purpose was to allow citizens of all religious persuasions to serve in the British military – to “bear arms.” Since the Colonies were on the frontier facing both hostile natives and hostile foreigners, the right to bear arms became a personal right rather than one applicable only to governmental organizations.

The 2nd Amendment, in essence, is the prime legal guarantee of the right of all Americans to defend their persons, property and neighbors against incursion of even unjust scts by governments at all level which fail to function as Constitutional governments to protect the people.

The chances are that no one will need to take up arms for personal defense. But in times of disaster when civil order breakds down it is reassuring to know that not only is my family well armed, but legally armed.

Finally Gave Their Guns Back…

New Orleans finally gave back the guns they stole under the cover of “cleaning up” after the hurricane. But they didn’t do it on their own. They fought “tooth and nail” for THREE YEARS when the Second Amendment Foundation and the National Rifle……
