A Fraudulent Pill to Swallow

Sharing

If you’re like me, you often rub up against common opinion and find little sense in it — or, as I like to put it, popular opinion with the common sense bled out of it.

On Monday I reported on an anti-Obamacare lawsuit against the federal government for mandating the purchase of medical insurance that included “free” contraceptive drugs (including “morning after pills”). I took on the obvious problems, but neglected to mention that it’s not insurance.

I guess you can call turnips “rainbows” and politicians “angels,” but, based on accepted meanings of terms, it is not “insurance” when benefits include regular maintenance or common preventive (“prophylactic”) products.

One doesn’t insure against dandruff by buying a policy that provides you with “free” shampoo or against sunburn by purchasing a policy that offers free SPF50 sunscreen. One doesn’t insure against obesity with insurance that provides “free” healthy foods according to This Diet or That Diet.

For instance, it would be absurd to have an insurance policy to pay for one’s vitamins.

In a sense, the vitamins are the insurance. Think of them as a separate, medicinal form of insurance, which you pay for at purchase.

Same for contraception.

One buys insurance for unexpected and irregular needs. Calling Obamacare’s “contraception benefit” mandate “insurance” is a fib.

Much of what we think of as insurance actually amounts to confused (and confusing) methods of savings (at best) or a confidence game to get some people to pay for the regular goods and services other folks use (at worst). By force and fraud.

The force is the government mandate. The fraud is calling this whole program “insurance.”

This is Common Sense. I’m Paul Jacob.

And yet Viagra is covered by catholic organizations as insurance.

Just another CATHOLIKOOK coverage since the rules are made by horny old men.

I have been saying the same thing for years. Co-pays and such are just prepaid medical care. And individuals should pay their own. Insurance coverage should be for catastrophic occurrences.

Common sense should realize that preventing pregnancy will not cost anything since the cost of pregnancy will exceed the cost of birth control. Therefore, it is at the worst revenue neutral and may actually save money for both insurance companies and the organizations paying for the benefits.

As long as I can recall, the purpose of health insurance was to assist in the event of illness or injury. Obama & co, have redefined it as a means to facilitate sexual congress without consequences.

No, “common sense should realize” that I have no interest in preventing births to “save money” for the insurance co and “organizations.” That is exactly the hustle and the fraud. People may buy their own insurance and their medical decisions do not affect me. Forcing everyone into the same system gets citizens complaining about what others choose to do. For an illustration, everyone in Australia has their favorite complaint about why the system is broke and isn’t free at all. One person complains that the system doesn’t work because of premature babies. Another complains about the elderly in the system.

Arguing that preventing births “saves money” and is the highest virtue, and over rides the freedom of conscience and forces me into the medical decisions of others is just deep black ignorance.

calling this insurance mandate a fib is superficial; it is an out-n-out LIE (as are essentially all of this idiots statements!

Insurance mandate sounds so much catchier than the “tax to collect funds from the middle class people that still have a job to pay for the marginal medical care of the half of the country that already does not pay income tax while persuading many of the business owners and medical insurance companies to abandon providing health insurance to their employees and customers so that the government will eventually be able to justify taking the whole industry over and rationing care for everybody while charging a higher price for it tax that will not apply to the politicians”.

All in the labeling.

“As long as I can recall, the purpose of health insurance was to assist in the event of illness or injury. Obama & co, have redefined it as a means to facilitate sexual congress without consequences.”

WRONG!! Much of what health insurance is about is preventative. That is why women have mammograms and pap smears. Men have ECGs, etc. Yearly checkups for Medicare recipients.

Guess you REPUBLIKOOKS are even dumber than I thought.

Same people who think the earth was created 6,000 years ago. Nothing like a REPUBLIKOOK.

To thisiscommonsense: I appologize for the unfortunate wording. I should have said, “argument from a deep black ignorance of the principles of liberty” to avoid a personal insult to one of your commenters. Wooops. Thanks.

Well Jatr4, mammograms and the other medical services you just named are not preventative, they are diagnostic. And Obamacare cuts these services, esp. to people over a certain age “to save money.” ref: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6e3udzHIiVs&feature=plcp (from commonsense archives).

When demcrats start talking about “prevention, prevention, prevention, it’s going to be very exciting” this means behavior control through the argument that controlling behavior “saves money.”

JATR4 — Certainly nothing should prevent people from purchasing medical care as part of some payment for services plan, but that doesn’t make it insurance. And those plans might be structured in lots of different ways for customers who want very different outcomes, from you to the Catholic Church. I think we’d be far better off if our employers weren’t standing (right next to uncle Sam) in between us and our medical care providers.

JATR4– I can’t hear what you’re saying because you’re religious bigotry is talking so loud.

You are right. I don’t like religions ruled by perverts which is what the catholic church is. Child molesters and pedophiles who make rules that suit them.

They are disgusting.

Most all of the wars are caused by religious extremists. Why would I have any respect for these idiots?

You seem uninformed. Diagnostic tests, vaccinations, etc. are just a portion of preventive medicine.

Maybe you should look up the definition of preventive/preventative medicine.

That is nothing but misleading jargon, and charged language, to claim that administering birth control is “preventative” just like getting a mammogram, and therefore others have to pay for it.

And the so-called “preventative” care you think you care so much about is cut, restricted, and regulated under Obamacare. Why? To “save money.”

Undeniably believe that that you said. Your favourite reason appeared to be at the web the simplest thing
to take into account of. I say to you, I definitely get annoyed whilst people think about worries that they plainly don’t understand about.
You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also defined out
the whole thing with no need side-effects , other
folks could take a signal. Will probably be back to
get more. Thank you
